Technical Associate / Director of Ecology

We are an environmental consultancy getting the life/work balance right, having adopted a permanent 4-day work week and being a committed BCorp business. Mondays and Thursdays we like to spend in the office to catch up with our colleagues, as well as site visits throughout the month and keeping up with our clients.
We are looking for someone with a strong technical background who can be one of the technical leads for the Ecology team, nurturing our consultants and graduates in the early stages of their careers. This role will support the wider team to win work that they love. You will develop great relationships with our clients and be supportive of their projects and enjoy finding commercial solutions to their problems.
Working in the ecology planning sector, this role will be to manage and deliver very complex projects from inception and bidding stages through to negotiation with consultees and the completion of planning documents such as Ecological Impact Assessments, EIA Chapters, BNG Assessments, Mitigation Strategies, Management Plans and Method Statements. Experience in (or an interest in pursuing) Expert Witness work is also desirable. . Having lots of interesting projects close to important bird sites, experience in ornithology and Habitats Regulations Assessments would be desirable.

- Has the ability to be a proactive technical lead in the region and share technical knowledge with/mentor the wider ecology team, including any areas in which you specialise
- Has a desire to manage large and complex projects and is confident in liaising with clients, statutory bodies and LPAs
- Holds an academic qualification in ecology or biological sciences
- Has strong survey skills including extended Phase 1, protected species surveys and/or botanical surveys (with at least one licence or specialism
- Has a developed understanding of legislative and planning policy framework
- Is enthusiastic and engaging with peers, contacts and clients
- Has a commitment to the pursuit of excellence, including a desire to innovate how we deliver for our clients
- Has excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reviewing
- Has experience of EIA/HRA/protected species licensing, with expert witness and ornithological HRA experience also desirable
- Is a full member of CIEEM, or Chartered Ecologist/working towards Chartership
- Holds a full UK driving license

Salary:
Tyler Grange operate a transparent pay structure with fixed pay points within each grade. Salary for this role will therefore be dependent on experience and suitability for the role/possession of essential and desirable skills as follows:
Associate pay points:
£48,460
52,500
56,300
Director pay points:
£60,300
£64,600
Benefits associated with these grades can be discussed further if selected for interview.
Pay points advertised currently reflect our 2024 salary banding. All pay points are reevaluated at the beginning of each year to consider inflation and other potential changes. These will be updated in January 2025, and those joining Tyler Grange in 2024 can expect those changes to be reflected from that period.
