Field Surveyor - Ecology
Do you love spending time outdoors, love the natural world and would enjoy a role where you can work flexibly?
We understand how difficult it can be to get a foot in the door – and we want to do all we can to help budding ecologists take their first steps in this very exciting career. Or are you at the other end of your career but looking for a way to work when you are available? We also recognise that some existing ecologists may want or need a different way of working and flexibility in the amount and type of work they take on.
As such for 2024 we are offering a different opportunity which could suit both entry level or more experienced ecologists as well as other people with a keen interest in the natural world. The Tyler Grange Ecology Field Surveyor role would suit someone who isn’t looking for a fixed term commitment, to enable them to fit surveys around studies, other work, or life/caring commitments.
Ecology Field Surveyor (variable rate depending on experience)
This is a flexible role allowing you to assist the TG Tribe with survey work while having some of the same benefits as a fixed-term role. If you are new to the industry then training for surveys will be provided and you will often be shadowing someone else from the TG Tribe allowing you to learn lots about ecology and the industry. This role is for someone who is passionate about working outside and learning more about British ecology in the field.
It could also suit candidates with field experience who are looking for a wider range of work or opportunities. Whilst you won’t be required to attend our offices or undertake desk-based work regularly, you are still a part of the Tribe and we will encourage you to come and spend time with the team. We are looking for field surveyors based in the following key locations:
- Yorkshire
- Manchester and the North West
- South Wales - ideally Cardiff/Swansea
- East Anglia
- Birmingham and the Midlands in general
- The wider radius of London Home Counties, Kent, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Essex
In this role there may sometimes be a need to spend time away from home, including overnight stays, to visit sites across the country, however, where possible we will match you with those sites closest to your home location. You should be a confident and competent driver with a full driving licence.
For this role, we would like you to:
- Have evidence of the right to work in the UK;
- Consider yourself to be a proactive team player;
- Be reliable, punctual and have strong communication skills; and
- Have a good attitude towards fulfilling all health and safety requirements.
